Companions,
Thank you for your dedication to Naval History. This date is a pivotal date in Naval History which has shaped our country since its occurrence and its importance must not be allowed to fade.
Infamy is defined as “the state of being well known for some bad quality or deed”; infamy usually implies notoriety as well as exceeding shame. December 7, 1941 is known as THE ‘Day that will live in Infamy’ as extracted from FDR’s speech to the Joint session of Congress when he asked for a declaration of War on Japan.
I thank our many Commanderies and Companions for your efforts to observe this day with luncheons, dinners, and presentations. While there is much written on Pearl Harbor, there is still much to explore. I won’t detail them here but leave that to you to look deeper into the ‘other’ events of that day. We had a superb presentation last month by New York Companion Dale Jenkins on the history events leading up to and decisions made or not made that impacted the Day which you will find for viewing at History Happenings or at this Link .
We have opened a BLOG on the Web Site which we welcome your comments on this Day and especially those who may have been there. YOU are our living history; keep this Day alive in the memories of ALL!
Sincerely,
For the Good of the Order
Bob Whitkop, CAPT USN (Ret)
Commander General
