Commemorating two of the most significant naval and military events in the Nation’s history: the Battle of Midway (4-6 June 1942) and the D-Day landings on Normandy (6 June 1944)

Life-Saving Service and Revenue Cutter Service merge in 1915, creating one of our core sister sea services, the United States Coast Guard.

We will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

This week we enjoy a double header in calendar dates to be mindful of and to celebrate for their sea service historical significance. First is the 248th anniversary of the birth of the United States Marine Corps on 10 November 1775! The second date is 11 November when we remember the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day in 1918 when the guns went silent after the War to End all Wars. If only.
