RADM Peter L. Andrus, SHCE/MC, USN (Ret)

Commander General 2023-2025

Admiral Andrus, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, received his direct commission as a line officer in Medical School and served in the Naval Reserve while a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania and while in residency training. On active duty he was a General Preventive Medicine officer at Naval Aerospace and Regional Medical Center, Pensacola, Florida.

After leaving active duty he served for ten years as Battalion Surgeon, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines and five years in command of NR 4MARDIV 1/23. He drilled with NR Naval Hospital Corpus Christi 410 and in 1988 became the first Commanding Officer of NR Medical Unit P-1025B, the Baylor College of Medicine PRIMUS unit. From October 1989 to September 1992 he served as Director of Health Services for Commander, REDCOM Ten in New Orleans, Louisiana. From 1992 to 1996 he served as 4th Marine Division Surgeon with additional duties as Marine Reserve Force Surgeon at HQ, Marine Reserve Force, New Orleans Louisiana. He served as Commanding Officer, 4th Medical Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Fleet Marine Force, San Diego, California, from 1996 to 1999, then assumed command of NR Naval Medical Center San Diego. He was promoted to Rear Admiral (Lower Half) on 1 October 2000 and assumed duties as Medical Department Staff/Deputy Assistant Chief in BUMED-07 and as Marine Forces Reserve Surgeon. On 1 October 2002, he assumed duties as Deputy Fleet Surgeon, US Pacific Fleet, and as Deputy Director for Reserve Affairs (N931R) on the OPNAV staff. Upon promotion to Rear Admiral (Upper Half) on 1 October 2003 he continued to serve on the OPNAV staff, eventually serving as Chief of Staff for the Surgeon General’s office (N093). He retired from the Navy on 1 November 2005.

His civilian career was on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and in full time general pediatric practice in Kingwood, Texas, until April 2006. Since then he engaged in locum tenens practice, most recently performing physical evaluations for various Military Entrance Processing Stations until the summer of 2021.

RADM Andrus is married to the former Sharon Noss has three grown sons (one deceased) and five grandchildren. He resides in Lakeway, Texas, and Moravia, New York.
