The New York Commandery awarded the RADM Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Naval Literature to John Wukovits on 5 November 2018 at a black-tie dinner held at the famed Racquet and Tennis Club on Park Avenue.
In RADM Cox' view the sea battles that took place off Guadalcanal in mid-November 1942 are the most epochal in the history of the United States Navy, replete with examples of extreme valor in the face of overwhelming odds in which few other battles can compare. The end result, at staggering cost, was a decisive victory for the U.S. Navy.
In keeping with its mission, the Naval Order is proud to gift to the USS John Finn (DDG 113) a bust of Chief John William Finn who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Japanese attack on the Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay on 7 December 1941.
